Little French Kitchen Tips for the perfect French Butter Pecans
Can I follow this butter roasted pecans recipe with other types of nuts?
Oui! (Yes!) While this butter pecan recipe is perfect with pecans, the same method works beautifully with almost any nut. Pecans are naturally rich and make the most delicious buttery pecans, but walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts or even cashews are just as delightful. Simply use what nut what you have on hand and enjoy this simple, French-inspired treat.
How long do French buttery pecans keep for?
Butter pecans will keep for 6–8 months when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator or a year in the freezer. At room temperature, they’re best enjoyed within 1–2 weeks. Because these buttery roasted pecans are coated in butter, they can spoil more quickly than plain pecans. When in doubt, store your butter pecans in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and flavorful for longer.
What can I substitute for butter?
For a dairy-free version, simply swap the butter for your favorite plant-based alternative or use a mild-flavored oil, such as coconut or avocado oil. Since oils heat differently than butter, the butter roasted pecans may toast more quickly, so keep a close eye on them and remove them as soon as they turn fragrant and lightly golden.
Can I add other spices to this recipe?
Now you’re thinking French, always on the creative side! Adding a ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, or chocolate power, or a pinch or two of Cayenne pepper can give these French buttery pecans your own personalized touch.
